Thank you… Vatican?

May 14, 2008

little known astronomer (outside the catholic fan base and astronomy), Father Funes, has recently announced that “Aliens Are My Brother” which is the title of his recent article form the official Vatican newspaper.

“Just as there is a multitude of creatures on Earth, there could be other beings, even intelligent ones, created by God. This does not contradict our faith, because we cannot put limits on God’s creative freedom,” he said.

“Just as we consider earthly creatures as ‘a brother’ and ’sister’, why should we not talk about an ‘extraterrestrial brother’? It would still be part of creation.”

I have to give them credit for thinking outside the box. They are acknowledging centuriesof mistakes from Galileo to the Big Bang Theory. The catholic doctrine comes straight from the bible which as far as I have read makes no claims to life outside of the middle east, much less the Earth. In recent history the Vatican has apologized to Galileo, ended the doctrine of purgatory, apologized for pedophile priests, celebrated Hitler’s birthday and now claim that life outside of our solar system could exist and that the Big Bang theory is the the most “reasonable” explanation of the creation of the universe.

I’m speechless about this, luckily I can write it all down and not actually make a speech.
